Motorcycle Review: Kawasaki VN250 Eliminator

The Kawasaki VN250 Eliminator is a cruiser bike with attitude and style. The particular bike under review is the 2000 model, but since 2000, the models haven’t really changed aside from some badge changes.

The VN250 has a 250cc V-twin, liquid cooled engine. It has a 6 speed gearbox, forward control handlbars, front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. The seat is fairly comfortable, I ride this bike every day at the moment around 1.25 hours per day each way to and from work. Reliability is fantastic, with only minor servicing needed so far. This particular model currently has around 31,000 kms on the clock and is still going strong. Currently, this model’s timing chain needs replacing, which is going to cost around $350 AUD, but that’s it.

The XJ is a truly beautiful luxury car, with lithe, elegant lines that ooze class and sex appeal, and its luxurious cabin is swathed in rich leathers and warm woods. Underway, it's quiet, smooth, stately, and powerful and it handles quite well. The XJ is far easier to operate than the German cars, namely the BMW 7 Series, the Audi A8, and the Mercedes S-Class, all of which have become so burdened with technology that can serve to annoy and frustrate drivers unfamiliar with their complex controls. Plus, the Jaguars cost less than the comparable German models. The 2006 Lexus LS 430 offers many of these assets, though it isn't as easy to operate as the Jag nor does it make a statement of true luxury and class the way the British marque does. That bit about true luxury applies to the Cadillac STS as well; the Cadillac just doesn't have the snob appeal of the Jaguar. In short, nothing says true luxury quite like a Jaguar XJ Vanden Plas. The aluminum chassis remains, of course, as does the same engine lineup as the current model. AutoWeek, however, reports that the XJ will share its future engine lineup with the upcoming XF sedan. We've learned already that the XF will feature an intriguing engine lineup that includes a base 4.2L V8, a supercharged 4.2L V8 producing 420 hp and a supercharged 5.0L V8 producing around 500 hp in the range-topping R-badged models. So we can expect all three engines for the fully redesigned 2010 XJ, as well.
